Acquiring Italian citizenship by citizenship granting decree

(pursuant to Articles 5 and 9 of Law no. 91 of 05.02.1992)

Any decree by the President of the Republic or the Minister of the Interior granting Italian citizenship will not have effect if the recipient fails to swear loyalty to the Italian Republic within six months of being notified of the decree.

Any foreign citizen in possession of the decree granting Italian citizenship who has been notified of such by the local Government Commission for the Province of Bolzano, must go to the Demographic Services - Citizenship Office at the City Hall of Bolzano to collect it.

Time limits

The oath of loyalty to the Italian Republic must be sworn within six months of being notified of the decree granting Italian citizenship.

Required documentation:

  • The decree granting Italian citizenship as reported by the Government Commission for the Province of Bolzano;
  • The notification report.

Processing time

The recipient will be contacted by phone to arrange the appointment for the oath.

Costs

Free of charge.

During the oath, a request will be made to have the original birth certificate transcribed, for which stamp duty of EUR 16.00 will be charged.
