Banns of marriage

Whether for civil or religious weddings, publishing the banns is essential. Their publication must be requested at the Marriage Office of the municipality where one of the future spouses resides.

Once the office has acquired the documents needed for publication, an appointment will be scheduled so that both future spouses can sign the banns record (Monday-Friday: 8:30 am - 12 pm; not available on Saturdays).

Validity

If the wedding is not performed within 180 days of the last day of publication, the publication will be considered as not having taken place.

Required documentation

  • Civil weddings:
      The documentation is acquired automatically.
Should one of the future spouses not be Italian, he/she must present an authorisation issued by the authorities of his/her country of origin.
  • Religious wedding:
The documentation is acquired automatically, except for the request for publication issued by the parish priest, which must be presented to the Marriage Office at the time of publication.

Publication

The banns remain published for eight days on the municipality's online bulletin board.

The wedding may not be performed before the fourth day following the last day of publication.

Costs

  • One revenue stamp of EUR 16.00 if both future spouses are residents in Bolzano.
  • Two revenue stamps of EUR 16.00 if they have residence in two different municipalities.

Regulatory references

Civil Code and D.P.R. (Decree of the President of the Republic) no. 396 of 03/11/2000 as amended.
